Top 5 reasons to spay & Neuter

  1. Spaying & Neutering increases your pet's chances for a longer, healthier life.
Spaying your female pet prior to her first estrous cycle (before she reaches sexual maturity) greatly reduces her chances of developing breast cancer.  It also eliminates the threat of ovarian and uterine cancer and uterine infection, which are common medical conditions associated with unaltered females.

Neutering your male dog or cat prevents testicular tumors and may prevent prostate problems. Neutering also decreases the possibility of perianal tumors and hernias, which are commonly observed in older, unaltered dogs.  Because neutered cats are less likely to roam, the threat of abscesses caused by bites and diseases transmitted by fighting is greatly reduced.

  2. An altered dog or cat is a better family pet.
Males neutered early in life are less aggressive toward other male pets and are not distracted by females in heat. As a result, a neutered male is less likely to leave the safety of your property to roam toward unsafe areas in search of a mate. Neutered males are also less likely to mark (spray urine) in your house or on outdoor shrubbery and plants.

Spaying your female pet eliminates the problem of stray males camping in your backyard howling or meowing for attention.

  3. No family wants to cope with an unwanted pregnancy.
Spaying prevents your pet from giving birth to unwanted puppies or kittens, thereby saving much time, money, and effort for the human caregivers.

  4. Spaying results in a cleaner home and female dog.
Because female dogs pass blood fluid for about 10 days, twice a year, as part of their estrous cycle, constant care must be taken to avoid carpet stains in homes with such animals. Spaying your dog eliminates this problem.

  5. You are helping to alleviate the dog and cat overpopulation problem.
Each year, millions of unwanted dogs and cats are euthanized (killed) at shelters across the country for lack of good homes.  Every home you find for your puppies or kittens takes away a possible placement for an existing shelter animal.  Having your pet spayed or neutered means that fewer cats and dogs will be destroyed.
